Kentucky Derby...stretch run and the winners circle, wearing the Roses.
Leaving the walking ring behind
the Grandstand- Belmont Stakes 1975
Walking ring at Aqueduct Race Track
Flying to the wire in the Florida Derby
The Champ finishes a close 3rd,and it was later discovered that the frogs on both front feet had been peeled back during the race. Many horses would have given up....but the Champ's class and courage simply shined that day.
Winning (center) the prestigious Wood
Memorial, setting a new stakes record.
In an incredible display of courage, Foolish Pleasure came to within a short neck of Avatar at the wire in the Belmont Stakes, dispelling the notion he would not get the distance. The great Bill Shoemaker, aboard Avatar would say "I was riding like hell"
In a couple of more strides, Foolish blew past Avatar.
At Hialeah, he runs off with the Flamingo Stakes, this after winning a bettless 'exhibition' in his first start as a 3 year old. The Flamingo made it nine wins in a row.
An early morning slow gallop at Hialeah Park.
This may be my favorite photo. Look at his face. See the determination written there. Foolish showed more expression
in his face than most horses, you could see his will to win. And in this, the 1976 Suburban Handicap, the little horse with the huge heart denies the great and imposing multiple champion, Forego the win. It was one of the greatest races I ever witnessed.
